Paint Work
Surface Preparation and Cleaning
The first and most crucial step is to ensure the wall is free from dust, cobwebs, and debris. For older walls, any flaking or peeling paint must be rigorously removed using a paint scraper. It is essential that the surface is completely dry and clean before proceeding to ensure proper adhesion.
Sanding (Surface Leveling)
The wall is sanded thoroughly using appropriate sandpaper. This process removes minor imperfections and creates a uniform surface texture. Proper sanding provides the necessary "tooth" for the subsequent layers to grip the wall firmly.
Wall Putty Application
To achieve a perfectly flat and smooth surface, wall putty is applied in two distinct stages: First Coat: Primarily used to fill in deep cracks, holes, and major surface depressions. Second Coat: A finishing layer applied to create an ultra-smooth surface. Once the putty has dried completely, it is lightly sanded again with fine-grit sandpaper to achieve a mirror-smooth finish.
Primer Coating
The application of a primer is mandatory. It acts as a bonding agent between the wall and the paint, prevents the wall from absorbing too much paint, and ensures the true color of the paint is visible. The primer must be allowed to cure for at least 4 to 6 hours.
Final Paint Application (Double Coat)
The final aesthetic finish is achieved through a two-coat painting process: First Coat: Applied evenly using a high-quality brush or roller. This coat must be allowed to dry completely. Second Coat: Once the base coat is dry, a final coat is applied. This ensures rich color depth, consistent sheen, and a professional, long-lasting finish.
